St. Mary's Basilica

St. Mary's Basilica, called St. Mary's Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was built in the years 1343-1502. Initially, it was a small chapel, which over time grew to its current size. The construction of the church was started on the initiative of the townspeople. During its history, the Basilica has undergone numerous changes and renovations. In the 17th century, it was destroyed by fire and suffered serious damage during World War II. After the war, reconstruction began. Today, St. Mary's Basilica is a symbol of the history and culture of Gdańsk.
